Hello,

I have an existing deployment of Visual SourceSafe 6.0d and I would like to
deploy Visual SourceSafe 2005 on the same server. Is this possible? I had
envisioned accessing the older sourcesafe with Visual Studio 2003 as
\\server\vss\ and the newer one only with Visual Studio 2005 using a
different share \\server\vss2005\. This allows me to keep the new code tree
clean with only new converted projects in it. Has anyone done this?

Thanks,

Hi Shan,

The database format hasn't changed between VSS6 and VSS2005.
VSS plugins for VisualStudio (ssscc.dll) are not Side-by-side.
While you can have different versions of VSS installed on the machine, you
can only have one ssscc.dll registered. The last one registered wins, and
will be used by both VS2003 and VS2005.
You can uninstall the VSS6 and install the VSS2005, and still be able to
access the older database from VS2003, using the VSS2005 plugin.
